The comeback is assured! Not only is Whitney Houston back in the public eye, releasing a new record and being surrounded by controversy, but now she will also be performing at the American Music Awards as a special honoree. The event’s producer, Larry Klein, said the following about Whitney Houston getting back on their stage: “We’re honored to have Whitney Houston back on the AMA stage after 10 years. She has won the most AMAs of any female artist in history and is without a doubt an international superstar so it’s only fitting we honor her with the International Artist Award this year at such an important time in her career.” But their not going to be giving her any more awards right? Of course not… enough is too much, already! Leave a few morsels for the other under evolved species, will you please?
Pop singer Whitney Houston is set to embark on a European tour beginning in the UK on April 8. This will be the diva’s first full tour since her ‘My Love is Your Love’ tour back in 1999. Whitney is also scheduled to appear on Britain’s The X Factor on Sunday. In addition to the UK, she will also be making stops in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium. Surely, if she’s doing a European tour, an American tour will follow. Hey, it may even come before then considering that the European tour doesn’t start until April. I’m sure Whitney fans are eagerly waiting for that announcement.
During Oprah’s interview with Whitney Houston, the talk show host had some questions for the singer’s 15-year old daughter Bobbi Kristina. The diva’s little girl was asked whether she had plans on having her own singing career and following her mother’s footsteps, to which she replied “Yeah. I know she hates it, but it’s the plan. It’s my plan. Mine. Yeah.” Bobbi Kristina also talked about her relationship with Whitney saying “I’ve been there with her through everything and the whole divorce and talking and whatever, but you know, I stay by her side. That’s like my best friend you know, that’s like my sister.”
According to Nielsen/Soundscan, Whitney Houston’s greatly anticipated comeback album ‘I Looks to You’ has debuted at #1 on several charts all over the globe, including US Top Albums, R&B Albums and the top spot in Canada, Germany, Italy and Switzerland. The iconic singer sold 304,801 units in the first week of her album’s release in the US, which marks the best selling first week sales of her career and the best selling first week sales by a female artist this year. Congratulations are definitely due for Whitney! I’m sure her numbers will keep going up. I just love a great comeback story.
Chat show queen Oprah Winfrey has said that an interview she has taped with singer Whitney Houston is “the most powerful interview I’ve ever done”.
“I can’t think of a moment, ever, when I had a stronger connection to the person I was interviewing,” said Winfrey about the interview, which is set to air in the US next week.
“I just wanted to be able to have an honest conversation with her [Houston]. One woman to another woman,” says Oprah.
“And the day of the interview I literally prayed about that all day long. I just wanted a connection between the two of us. And that is what happened.”
She added: “And that is why I believe it’s one of the most, if not the most, powerful interviews I’ve ever done.”
The talk show titan hinted that they spoke openly and honestly about the star’s former drug problems and her troubled marriage to Bobby Brown.
“I think whether you liked or loved Whitney Houston before, you will certainly have a deeper appreciation for what she has been through as a human being,” Winfrey said.
Here’s a chance for a couple of big divas to clash. In order to kick start her musical comeback, Whitney Houston will be sitting down for an exclusive interview for the September 14th season premiere of the Oprah Winfrey show. The talk show host’s couch has always been known to induce some tears from a guest. I wonder if she’ll be asking the questions that will make the returning singer break down. I wonder if Oprah will be allowed to ask the questions about drugs. And with that interview, you can be sure that Whitney will be performing too. Whitney Houston recently unveiled the album cover for her new album ‘I Look to You’ which is scheduled to drop in stores on September 1. The 45-year old singer will also be kicking off Good Morning America’s fall concert series in September as part of her comeback. And if you’re wondering if she’s still the same diva as she was before, Clive Davis, the label head who discovered Whitney, says that the singer “still stands for the best of song writing, the best of singing — and we know the public wants it.” If Clive is singing that much praise for her, then I am absolutely excited for her return.
It’s looking to be the year of the comeback divas. The much anticipated album of Whitney Houston is coming out this September and Barbara Streisand is also back with her first new studio album in four years! On ‘Love is the Answer’, the iconic singer teamed up with Canadian jazz singer Diana Krall. The album is scheduled to drop on September 29th. It’s Barbra’s first full-length collection of all new recordings since ‘Guilty Pleasures’ back in 2006. I hope she’s got a lot of good material on there. She’s got a lot of time to make up for, not to mention that crappy TV special she put on a while back.
It seems that the famous singer, who hasn’t released anything for the amazing period of seven years, will be making up for lost time to her fans with a new album coming out on the first of September of this year. Apparently, Whitney Houston has been having marital problems, drug problems and so on in recent years, so she probably has a lot of material to go on. But then again, there is the little matter of a supposed erratic behavior of Whitney Houston’s… but then again, how much of a problem can that be? After all, in that field she has Britney Spears to surpass and that’s one hell of a challenge.
Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole has reportedly been working with Whitney Houston’s songwriters in a bid to kick off her solo career.
Cheryl, 25, is said to have teamed up with Danish duo Soulpower, who have written tracks for Whitney, as well as Destiny’s Child.
A source said: “Soulpower are one of the hottest production pairings out there at the moment. They’re hugely sought after and command a huge fee for their services.”
The source added to British newspaper The Sun: “They regularly write hits for American soul stars like Toni Braxton and Christina Milian.
“Cheryl really enjoyed her time in the studio with them.”
