Which is more likely – Sting writing ‘Roxanne’ about prostitutes while traveling in Paris or Sting co-writing it in the basement of his Reno home with a guy he met at a restaurant? According to a police report filed by Roy Smith, Sting heard him singing at Molly’s Garden Restaurant in 1977, thought he was good and asked him to hang out. They hung out in Sting’s basement drinking beers, during which time, Smith told Sting about an ex named Roxanne who was a prostitute and about writing letters to his late father which he then put in a bottle. Smith claims that Sting agreed to give him royalties for the songs, but never did. But that’s not all – Smith also claims that Sting tried to contact him through his mom but that she didn’t relay the messages because she though that the real police were after her son. Stupid!

Sting slammed for carbon footprint

Eco-activist Sting has been criticised by environmental campaigners for creating a huge carbon footprint with his band The Police at the Live Earth concert.

The group reformed last year to tour and made an appearance at the Al Gore organised event in the summer. The aim of the event was to raise awareness and battle climate change.

John Buckley, of Carbonfootprint.com, says, “At Live Earth in New Jersey where the Police played, the biggest emissions weren’t from the concert, it was the fans.”

So it wasn’t really Sting’s fault then?

Hmmm regardless, The Police had been voted the worst offenders of the music industry; with bands such as Babyshambles and Radiohead being deemed the more eco-friendly acts.

The Police, that quintessential 1970’s and 1980’s pop-rock band that made a household name out of Sting, the lead singer of the group who would eventually leave to embark on a stellar and still-thriving solo career, have reunited and you had better believe that you are going to want to be among the hordes of eager fans who are flocking to see this band perform their numerous hits live onstage for the first time in years of eager anticipation and hope!

Highlights of this tour include stops at such venues as Madison Square Garden Arena in New York, New York on October 31 and November 2, as well as Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey on November 3. The band will also play at the Verizon Center in Washington DC on November 5, John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Virginia on November 6, Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario on both November 8 and November 9, RD Banknorth Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on November 11, and Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec on November 12 as well as stints abroad including such locales as the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan on February 13, LTU Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany on June 8 and Manchester Evening News Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom on June 18.

Sex Pistols frontman Johnny Rotten has ridiculed Sting’s decision to reform his band The Police, branding them “soggy old dead carcasses”. Rotten, who this week announced his punk band would perform a one-off reunion gig in London later this year, likened the band’s music to “letting air out of a balloon.” Such mean words from someone who’s a “soggy old carcass” himself! The Sex Pistols enjoyed some degree of fame (or should I say notoriety?) in their day…they were a fad…but their songs have not reached the same classic status as The Police’s songs. Mr. Rotten has no right to insult The Police, who have always been a far superior band to his own. Mr. Rotten, let’s see what people have to say about YOUR band’s reunion gig. And why try and insult and create a bad image for a band that has achieved so much more that his band ever set out to do, aim higher achieve higher.
