Ex-pop star Carnie Wilson broke down in tears on US television as she opened up about her struggle to lose weight.
The former Wilson Phillips member said she had been obsessed with sugar since she was just six years old and still turned to it for comfort.
And although she no longer drinks, she confessed she was an alcoholic and sobbed as she described her battle with the bottle.
“That almost took me down big time,” she told celebrity medic Dr Oz. “I think the addiction’s always been there. I think I’m a true alcohol addict. That’s who I am. I’m not ashamed to admit that, I’m not afraid to admit that. I know who I am. It doesn’t make it less painful sometimes.”
Asked by Dr Oz why she had decided to go on his programme, Wilson admitted: “I need help.”
Speaking about her childhood, she said: “I was obsessed with sugar. I had cake mix, just raw cake mix – the powder, because I had to have that sugar.
“And that’s the way I’ve been feeling lately. I turn to sugar for comfort.”
Wilson, 41, looked stunned as she stepped onto the scales in front of a live studio audience and was told she weighed 218lbs.
When Dr Oz revealed she also had a 41-inch waist and a blood sugar level of 100, the singer lost her composure. “I’m shocked. I can’t believe it,” she said.
Wilson later broke down backstage, when husband Rob Bonfiglio criticised her reaction.

Eighties singer Sinitta has revealed she is pregnant with her third child after a short romance with a millionaire.
The 41-year-old star has been dating boyfriend Stefano Zagni, 43, since November last year and she has now revealed she is expecting a baby.
The singer, who is best pals with X-Factor boss Simon Cowell, had trouble conceiving with her estranged hubby, Andy Wilner, 49.
She suffered several miscarriages and had four courses of IVF before they adopted kids Zac, three, and Magdalena, four, in 2007.
A pal of the star said: “She’s delighted by this news. She had given up hope of ever having a child of her own and it was a surprise to find she was expecting. Simon is pleased for her.
“Obviously, because of her history of miscarriages, she is worried.”

Former Midnight Oil singer turned politician Peter Garrett is under fire after four insulation-related deaths in Australia.
The death of a 22-year-old man installing insulation on February 4 led to calls last week for Garrett to resign as Australian environment minister.
A senate enquiry into the deaths associated with the government insulation scheme started on Thursday.
Mitchell Sweeney died on the job in north Queensland. His mother Wendy told radio she had not heard from authorities in nearly two weeks since his death. She said her son and his two co-workers received only four days’ training in how to install insulation.
Garrett, who has reportedly ignored calls to resign, phoned her yesterday but could not answer her questions about what action will follow.
“[Garrett] sounded genuine when he called and said he was sorry about what had happened,” Wendy Sweeney said. “He offered his condolences, but said he couldn’t comment on the investigation, so I still don’t have any answers.”

Tyler Perry is facing a lawsuit from songwriter Johnny Tyrone Stringfield because of unauthorized use of his lyrics on an episode of ‘Meet the Browns’. Several characters on the show sang the lines “The Devil thought he had me … but I got away” which is actually from Johnny’s song ‘I Got Away’. Unfortunately, Tyler and the companies behind the show have not paid up. The gospel singer is asking for over $100,000 to keep things copacetic. Tyler should just pay up. It’s not like he doesn’t have the bank accounts that couldn’t pay it. I’m sure his earnings from ‘Madea’ wouldn’t even break a sweat.
