Leon Hendrix, Jimi’s younger brother, has issued a statement claiming that the recently revealed sex tape of the guitar hero was a fake.
“The person in that film is not Jimi from what I have heard,” said Leon. “Yes, he had many female fans during that time and some may have been filmed. But this one is not Jimi Hendrix.”
Experience Hendrix, who control rights to Jimi Hendrix’s music and likeness, also questioned the tape’s authenticity, “We view the release as nothing more than a callous attempt to trade on the image and reputation of a deceased artist who is unable to defend himself against such an outrageous and baseless assertion.”
At 57 years of age and 30 years in the music industry, singer Phil Collins has finally decided to retire. The singer recently completed a reunion tour with his former band Genesis. Just this past Friday, he announced that he will no longer be releasing any more albums nor would he go on any more tours. The now retired musician plans to take a break from music but will continue to write music on his free time. As for the bulk of his free time, Phil has said that he’ll be spending time working on his favorite hobby of collecting memorabilia from the Battle of the Alamo.
Universal records has given Amy Winehouse an ultimatum – either she quit the drugs or else she will not have her new record released. No record release means no money for drugs. The label made a similar threat earlier this year to get Wino into rehab after pictures and a video of her smoking crack surfaced. An insider says that Universal have stepped up again saying “Amy has been reminded of her responsibilities. Unless she is clean she will not be allowed to release another album.” Let’s hope this ultimatum will shake Amy straight though I’m not betting on it especially if Blake gets out of prison early.
The curvaceous diva that is Mariah Carey is this week’s music mentor to the final seven contestant on American Idol. I wonder if they will be singing Mariah’s songs. And I wonder what the heck David Cook will do. I’m also thinking about whether Mariah will lip synch through her performance on the elimination show like she did on German Idol. If she does, I’m sure she’ll get a very ugly criticism from Simon. In other Idol news, you can now vote for the winner’s single on AmericanIdol.com. There are some pretty great songs there so think about what you want to hear and who you want to hear sing it.
Rumors became more rampant in January that the New Kids on the Block were considering a reunion. Now, the reports have been confirmed. The original boy band will be performing for the first time in years on April 4th on the Today show. Yeah, that’s this Friday. NKOTB now consists of 30-somethings, namely Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood and Donnie Wahlberg. Coincidentally, 2008 marks that 20th anniversary since the release of their big hit ‘Hangin Tough’. A reunion tour might be in the works. I’m wondering if it will be as successful as the Spice Girls reunion. I’m not sure if anyone still cares though.
Madonna is still all over the place as she now takes the cover of the May issue of UK’s Elle. In the accompanying interview, she talks about her kids, why she married director Guy Ritchie and about some of the songs she wrote with him in mind. The Queen of Pop gets really intimate with the magazine on some parts of the interview. Here’s something you might not want to know but I’d still tell you anyway – Madonna said that “Sex with Guy is incredible!” Can someone say “too much information”? But let me guess – with all that working out she does, I bet Madonna likes it on top. I can feel the dominatrix vibe.
It is being said that singer Sean Levert was physically restrained by jail guards right before he died. Staff at the Cuyahoga County Jail where he was detained said that Levert was “out of control” and “hallucinating” which forced them to place him in a restraining chair as he was a danger to himself. The jail’s warden says that Levert was cooperative when he was bound to the chair. The coroner also says that Levert’s body showed no signs of physical trauma nor do they suspect foul play. They are still waiting on toxicology results to come back – that may take four to six weeks.
Androgynous rebel singer Sinead O’Connor has come out of her 1992 time capsule to play a show in Australia this week. Seriously, where has she been for the last decade or so? According to her website, Sinead actually retired from her singing career back in 2003 to pursue another career – advice giving. Obviously, her new choice of career didn’t take off as she’s back to singing. I’m sure the fans, the few that are left of them, are so glad that she’s back. I have a question though. What is she going to be singing to her fans when she doesn’t have new material? All of her old stuff are, well… old.
In the world of showbiz you can only find a few artists who age with hotness. 80s pop star Rick Astley happens to be one of them. For those that don’t know about the guy, he’s the one who sings the gem of a classic ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’. If you still don’t know, you now have a chance to find out as he is reportedly going back on tour. Unfortunately for international fans, all his dates are for the UK only. Astley seems to be content with his past success as he has no plans to work on new material after the tour. He spoke to an English paper saying that the chances of him making a new record are slim explaining that he doesn’t have the energy for it.
Dolly Parton – now that’s a star who needs no introduction or any grace of tongue to be described. The diva and country music legend is back with a new album called ‘Backwoods Barbie’. On that album, she has a cover of the 80s classic ‘Drives Me Crazy’ by the Fine Young Cannibals. And like I said, it’s Dolly. Her cover rules! Her cover still has the 80s feel which made the song really enjoyable in the first place but then she adds her own country flavor and it became even better. I never knew I would be into country as much as this and again I have to say – it’s Dolly Parton! How could anyone not like her?
Kate Nash was told she could die if she didn’t have an operation on her heart.
The ‘Foundations’ singer suffered from tachycardia - a condition that speeds up heart rate and causes palpitations - and was told it could be fatal if she didn’t undergo risky surgery.
The 20-year-old star said: “I suffered from tachycardia, which gives you palpitations and chest pains. The doctors gave me the option of having a procedure to get it fixed, but there were risks. I put it off but then two years ago, it started happening every night, so I decided to go through with it. It could have been life-threatening. They told me the operation had loads of risks - strokes, heart attacks, pacemakers - but in the end I just thought, ‘Anything could happen.’ So I had the procedure and got it out of the way, thank God.”
Kate - who was named Best British Female at last month’s BRITs - says the illness increased her determination to make it big in the music industry.
She added: “I’m quite a driven person anyway but it really pushed me. All my friends were going to university or drama school and I could have moped around because I didn’t get a place. But I didn’t - I started playing live, making flyers, going to open-mic nights and emailing people.”
Check out his London Fog! Michael Bolton lovingly wraps fiancee Nicollette Sheridan’s naked body in one of the classic trench coats from the company.
It’s not some freak publicity thing. It’s all a part of a new charity campaign. The sexy shots will debut in magazines next month. Proceeds from the campaign will go to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, Connecticut. The camp was started by Paul Newman in 1988 to provide an outdoor experience for children who are seriously ill.
George Michael was spotted just as he was leaving a London recording studio on Thursday. This time, instead of being slumped over the steering wheel of a car, he was photographed walking in between two cars. Is the beefy pop star working on a new album? If so, this is the first time I’m finding out. Let’s hope that his popularity with the fans will grow just as much as his waist. Otherwise, it’s a lost cause. How did he get so fat? He needs to work out some more. Where’s Richard Simmons when you need him? Then again, I’m not liking the idea of George in tight gym shorts.
Aretha Franklin really got pissed when Beyonce deemed her Grammy’s duet partner Tina Turner as ‘The Queen’ but Beyonce’s father Matthew decided to come to the defense of his daughter by releasing a statement to People on Thursday. He says “Something this ridiculous — it’s childish, it’s unprofessional. And it’s a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess.”
So not only is Aretha not a queen but she’s also a child. The Queen of Soul should really be pissed now! Watch out Matthew, Aretha might unleash the girls on you and have her chest crush your head.
Britney Spears still has a rotating circus of paparazzi pals to play with but it seems like they may have some competition from an inanimate object. It seems that the fallen pop star has gotten intimate with a chair so says the owner of Millennium Dance Complex via People. The pop wreck was apparently doing choreography for her song ‘Hot as Ice’ and that she “rehearsed an amazing routine with a chair” spending nearly three hours on it. If ‘Hot as Ice’ turns out to be a new single and she’s going to dance for it, let’s hope the moves turn out better than the last couple of moves she’s done.
While it’s being reported that Paula Abdul is going to perform at this year’s Super Bowl, it is also being said that the once singer is not planning a musical comeback. She just did the one-off song for her fellow American Idol judge Randy Jackson’s new album. And I hate to say it, but it’s actually really good. It’s called ‘Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow’. Her vocals may have been manipulated beyond belief and the song sounds like something that should have been on Britney’s last album or Janet’s new one. They may even play this on the radio! But during the Super Bowl? No thanks.
George Michael has reportedly signed a multi-million dollar deal to write a so-called no holds barred autobiography. HarperCollins will release the book and the publishing company said that the controversial singer will write the tell-all autobiography entirely by himself. Really? Will he spill the beans on his sexual compulsivity too? He better not do any sugarcoating now! I want the dirt!
The singer’s manager Andy Stephens said that “George has promised HarperCollins a no-holds-barred biography, and it’s certain to be just that. People aren’t stupid, they’re beginning to notice that the truth is more interesting than the stories the press come up with.”
A mini Destiny’s Child reunion took place in Milan on Saturday when Kelly Rowland joined former band mate Beyonce and her boyfriend Jay-Z. Where was Michelle? Wasn’t she invited?
Anyway, the trio hit the Versace fashion show and were seated front row, in perfect view of the photographers! I wonder how Mister Armani feels about this. Beyonce is the face of Armani’s new fragrance yet there she was showing a lot of love and support for the competition. If Armani does have something to say, Beyonce can just say that she’s scouting for her own fashion line. Either way, girl has some explaining to do.
Alanis Morissette is finally returning to the music scene. She has just released a power ballad called ‘Underneath’. The song was produced by Guy Sigsworth, known for his work with Frou Frou and Imogen Heap. A video is also out for the song and it was directed by Matt Docter.
According to Wiki, the song had an unofficial debut on September 15, 2007 at the Kodak Theatre in LA at the Elevate Film Festival. Alanis reportedly submitted her song and just like all other 14 videos shown at the festival, had the song’s video written, directed, shot and edited in two ways.
