After being with Geffen Records for over 18 years, Rob Zombie is leaving the label and moving on to Roadrunner Records. The rock singer claims that his former label didn’t give him enough time to promote his new album ‘Hellbilly Deluxe 2’ before it’s November 9th release. I think he’s right because this is the first time that I’ve heard that he has new music. Rob said “It certainly wasn’t an easy decision to make after all this time, but it had to be done. I love this new record and wanted to surround myself with an excited new group of people who can reignite my enthusiasm for working within a hard rock record label. Roadrunner seems to be the perfect place.” The album will now hit shelves some time next year to give the rocker enough time to promote it.
Rod Stewart recently had an interview where he said that he wants to have another child. The singer already has 6 kids and he’s 64 years old! Rod is married to model Penny Lancaster and their son Alistair is 4 years old. Rod said “one more, then I’m going to close the office.” Good idea. He’s getting up there in years and I don’t think that any parent would want to not be around to see their kids grow up. How does he plan on keeping up with toddlers and babies anyway? If you ask me, the office should have been closed a long time ago.
Bijou Phillips came out with harsh statements about her half sister Mackenzie Phillips’ supposed incestuous affair with their father, the late singer John Phillips. Bijou admitted that Mackenzie had told her about the affair but that she doubted Mackenzie was telling the truth. However, back in 2000, Bijou was singing a rather different tune, one that might implicate a camaraderie between the siblings. Bijou was interviewed by Index Magazine about her Playboy cover, her failed attempts at being a serious actress and her minor success in music. The interviewer asked about one song in particular about her father. Bijou said “The one about my dad? It sort of speaks for itself. I’ve made this decision not to talk to the press about anything that’s gone on in my life, but just to write music about it. They can interpret it themselves.” Could she have gone through the same thing that Mackenzie had?
The shocking story of Mackenzie Phillips’ incestuous relationship with her father has had many people coming forward either in defense or anger towards the actress. One such person in dismay over the allegations is her former stepmother, Genevieve Waite. She released a statement directly to the Oprah Winfrey show after Mackenzie’s interview, denouncing her story. She said “I am stunned by Mackenzie’s terrible allegations about her father. I would often complain about her overly familiar attitudes towards him, and he said it was just her way. John was a good man. … He was incapable, no matter how drunk or drugged he was, to have sexual relations with his own child.” Since Mamas and the Papas singer, John Phillips, isn’t alive to defend himself, there is no real way of knowing if Mackenzie is telling the truth.
The very lovely and talented Regina Spektor is about to take on a fantastic new journey as the singer and song writer is set to collaborate with playwright and director Tina Landau and lyricist Michael Korie on a new musical called ‘Beauty’. The new show is being described as using the “the 1812 Grimm fairy tale ‘Sleeping Beauty’ as a jumping off point for a contemporary and hauntingly provocative story of beauty lost and beauty found.” With Regina’s name attached to the project, I’m sure that it’s going to be amazing. ‘Beauty’ is being aimed at Broadway for the 2011-2012 season, after an out of town run.
Mary Travers, part of the legendary folk trio of Peter, Paul and Mary, passed away last Wednesday at 72 years of age after losing her ongoing battle with leukemia. Her band mate, Peter Yarrow, insisted that she handled her illness with bravery. He said that his fellow singer expressed love to her family and friends “with great dignity and without restraint. It was, as Mary always was, honest and completely authentic. That’s the way she sang, too; honestly and with complete authenticity.” Her other band mate, Noel ‘Paul’ Stookey added “I am deadened and heartsick beyond words to consider a life without Mary Travers and honored beyond my wildest dreams to have shared her spirit and her career.” RIP.

Celine Dion is pregnant with her second child. The singer’s Quebec publicist recently told ET Canada “They are crazy in love over the news.” The 41-year old and her husband, 67-year old Rene Angelil, conceived with the help of a team of fertility doctors in New York. The couple already has a son, 8-year old Rene-Charles. I wonder if he’s excited to become a big brother. Celine’s official website has yet to confirm the news but does say “If you hear a rumour, it will be confirmed here first. This is the only spot on the Internet where you’ll get the official Céline word!” Congratulations to the happy couple!
Thirty two years after his death, jazz legend Duke Ellington’s name was suddenly being used to sell a high end brand of cognac which has made his family all sorts of mad. Duke’s grandson has filed a federal lawsuit in New York, claiming that the people responsible for the liqueur called ‘Duke Ellington XO Cognac’ in 2006 never got the proper permission to use the singer’s name and signature on their product. In the documents, the Ellington estate claims that the people behind the cognac “once attempted to negotiate with [the estate] … but no agreement was ever reached between the parties.” Now, the family wants the company to stop selling the cognac and they also want all the profits that have been earned from previous sales.
A lot of celebrities have gone on the Twitter bandwagon but Kid Rock isn’t one of them. In fact, it would be an understatement to say that he isn’t a fan. The singer recently talked Rolling Stone about the micro blogging website, saying “It’s gay. If one more person asks me if I have a Twitter, I’m going to tell them, ‘Twitter this sh*t, motherf*cker.’ I don’t have anything to say, and what I have to say is not relevant. Anything that is relevant, I’m going to bottle it up and then squeeze it onto a record somewhere.” If he doesn’t have anything to say then he should have stopped talking long ago.
Weird Al Yankovic is known to parody some of the best talent in music. The comedic singer has even parodied Michael Jackson. The King of Pop was even flattered by it. But it seems that James Blunt wants no part of Weird Al’ flattery. Weird Al is getting ready to release a greatest hits CD this fall but don’t expect his parody song ‘You’re Pitiful’ to be on it. The comedic singer recently went on his Twitter about it saying “In case you were hoping for “You’re Pitiful” to be included on my “Essentials” collection, sorry, this just in from Blunt’s manager: Thanks for your email, but both James and I will never approve this parody to be released on any label.” Someone needs to get a sense of humor.
