Controversial singer Sinead O’Connor has launched an attack against the Catholic church.

Irish bishops want their followers to help compensate children sexually abused by priests. The move comes after the Dublin archdiocese was rocked in November 2009 by the release of The Murphy Commission Report, a document resulting from a public inquiry into allegations the Vatican had hidden child abuse by its priests between 1975 to 2004.

Following a plea from Dublin-based Bishop Denis Brennan to churchgoers, asking for help in paying £9.2 million in settlements to abuse victims, the singer has once again stepped forward to show her anger against the Catholic church.

In an open letter to several major Irish newspapers, O’Connor has written: “If Christ was here, he would be burning down the Vatican. And I for one would be helping him. How long do they expect us to restrain ourselves? We have put up with this bull dung for hundreds of years.

“A true Christian is someone who, in any given situation, is supposed to ask themselves what would Jesus do, then try to do that. How an organisation which has acted, decade after decade, only to protect its business interests above the interests of children can feel it has the right to dictate to us what Christians should do is beyond belief.”

The singer who is apparently famous for recording a cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” didn’t quite get along with the artist. Sinead O’Connor relates her first encounter with the pop legend: “I didn’t hit it off with Prince. I met him after I’d recorded ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ and he said he didn’t appreciate how I used bad language in my interviews. I told him to go fuck himself and he wasn’t very happy.” Of course Prince wasn’t happy about it. Sinead O’Connor might have reminded him of some unsavory moments of his past. Whatever the case, I’m sure they’ll patch things up if Sinead O’Connor records another cover and stops reminding Prince of his darker side.

Eighties pop idol Paul Young is working as a part-time chef in the restaurant run by his ex-wife and the man she left him for.

The singer, 52, is famed for his love of cooking and came fourth on Britain’s reality show Hell’s Kitchen last year.

Paul, who racked up 14 top 40 singles like Love of the Common People and Wherever I Lay My Hat, was spotted serving up Cajun specials to a crowd of just 50 people at the Upstairs restaurant in north London.

He chatted with diners and posed for pictures in between rustling up dishes such as barbecue shrimp and vegetarian nut cutlet.

Paul’s 20-year marriage to ex Stacey ended when she fell for company director Ilan Slazenger two years ago.

A pal said: “Paul and Stacey have remained firm friends. He’s thrilled to be working in the restaurant because he loves cooking.” Evidently, wherever Paul lays his chef’s hat, he’s at home.

Androgynous rebel singer Sinead O’Connor has come out of her 1992 time capsule to play a show in Australia this week. Seriously, where has she been for the last decade or so? According to her website, Sinead actually retired from her singing career back in 2003 to pursue another career – advice giving. Obviously, her new choice of career didn’t take off as she’s back to singing. I’m sure the fans, the few that are left of them, are so glad that she’s back. I have a question though. What is she going to be singing to her fans when she doesn’t have new material? All of her old stuff are, well… old.

Sinead O’Connor on Kylie Minogue

Sinead O’Connor recently spoke to Sydney’s Daily Telegraph and she has some interesting thoughts on Australian singer Kylie Minogue. She says “I really can’t stand Kylie’s music at all. I know Australian fans might want to shoot me for saying this, but that would be a far better option than to listen to one of her albums. She was on Irish television recently. I couldn’t bear it and had to turn it off.” Not all people can stand Kylie’s music but I doubt they all would choose to be shot down instead of listening for five minutes. Sinead’s just jealous because she doesn’t have a career anymore.
