It was recently reported that Pink Floyd filed a lawsuit against EMI Group over music royalties. And guess what? The band won! Despite the fact that the rock icons’ contract stated that their music could not be unbundled from its original context, EMI had been selling the music as singles and using them as ringtones. The record label will no longer be selling single downloads from their concept albums and they will also have to pay the band. The price hasn’t been determined yet but the costs are estimated at £60,000. With all their money problems, you have to wonder when EMI will completely go under.
The ultimate 70s band woke up one day and wanted to get paid in 2008 money. The Allman Brothers Band just recently discovered that kids were buying their tunes online and using them as their ringtones. Now, the band wants their share of the jack. They allege in a Federal lawsuit that they are the victims of digital exploitation by UMG Recordings and say that they’re due $13 million. I’m surprised that a lot of people actually buy their music still. Or maybe that’s just how they think. Most of the world must be relieved that members of the band are still actually kicking around.
