Since his brother Donnie reunited with his band the New Kids on the Block, MTV got to wondering whether Mark Wahlberg will be reforming Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch soon. The younger Wahlberg replied “Not a f*cking chance. They asked me if I would partake and I had to decline. Part of me would love to run around and act like a freaking a–hole again but I can’t do that. I’ve got two kids. I saw something on VH1 or something about me in the 90s and I thought, oh my God, how am I going to explain this to my kids? I have a few years to think about how to finesse it but I do think about it on a daily basis.” And of the New Kids reunion, Mark says “Whatever floats your boat. If the Rolling Stones can be wheeled out on wheelchairs then why can’t the New Kids go out there?”

It looks like the pop phenomena of the 90s are all trying to make a comeback in 2008. First, there was the Spice Girls, then there was the New Kids on the Block and now, there’s Boyzone. The lads from the Irish group have released a new image to publicize their big reunion tour. Time hasn’t been kind to some of them but Ronan Keating is still looking as hot, maybe hotter, as he did before. I bet the openly gay one of the group really loved having to shoot photos for this campaign. Man, muscle and oil – I bet he was going nuts that day.

ace-of-base.jpg

2007 was the year of the defunct bands’ reunions and it still continues on in 2008. It was reported last year that Ace of Base was reuniting and it’s finally come to materialize this year. Too bad it’s an incomplete reunion. Everyone saw the sign but it just didn’t look like this. The band may be back but they’re returning one member short as Ace of Base is now a trio. And when it gets like that, you know it’s not going to be the same. In any case, does anyone even still care for Ace of Base – much less the fact that they’re now a trio?

New Kids on the Block made their first TV appearance as a reunited group on NBC’s The Today Show last Friday to announce plans for their new album and upcoming worldwide tour. The 90s boy band didn’t perform on the show but they did debut a clip from ‘Summertime’, a song off their upcoming album. The group will be back on the show on April 16 to perform live. Donnie also said that “We’re going to dance, we’re going to sing, we’re going to do it all.” Here’s to hoping that no one would need hip replacement surgery after that performance.

backstreet-boys-band.jpg

Some people just don’t know when to quit. I guess the Backstreet Boys never heard of the saying “quit while your ahead” because the once golden boy band is still together. And if you’re one of the few people left who still want to see the now 4-strong group, you can catch them this summer as they’re slated to sing at the Minnesota State Fair. Tickets sell for a little bit less than $30. I say that’s still $30 too much. But at least their sure to sell more than Avril Lavigne. I mean, it’s the State Fair. Lots of people go to the fair as opposed to Avril’s concert.

New Kids on the Block

Rumors became more rampant in January that the New Kids on the Block were considering a reunion. Now, the reports have been confirmed. The original boy band will be performing for the first time in years on April 4th on the Today show. Yeah, that’s this Friday. NKOTB now consists of 30-somethings, namely Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Danny Wood and Donnie Wahlberg. Coincidentally, 2008 marks that 20th anniversary since the release of their big hit ‘Hangin Tough’. A reunion tour might be in the works. I’m wondering if it will be as successful as the Spice Girls reunion. I’m not sure if anyone still cares though.

yazoo-duet.jpg

25 years after helping to change the direction of British music, Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet are back together as Yazoo.

The band are set to embark on a world tour taking in the UK, Europe and the USA.

After Vince found fame as founder member and main songwriter in Depeche Mode, the floppy-haired keyboard maestro responded to an advert placed in Melody Maker by fellow Basildonian Alison and they formed Yazoo. They quickly became one of the UK’s most respected musical duos, leaving their mark on the charts.

The follow up album, You and Me Both was released just as the band were splitting up, leaving fans desperate to hear the songs performed live. The song went on to reach No. 1 regardless.

This summer, Yazoo are reuniting for their first tour in almost 3 decades. The Reconnected Tour will see the duo playing rare material alongside their hits.

Spice Tour Comes to an End
Well, it’s done and over with. The Spice Girls have wrapped up their reunion tour and they’ve posted their farewell on their official blog. They say “Our time is up… we’ve come to the end of the road… there are tears of both sadness and joy. Look how far we’ve come!” They thank all the loyal fans who, ten years on, are still giving their full support to the girls. They end the post with a line from their song saying “We hate goodbyes but sadly the time has come to take our final bow so maybe our song says it best: ‘Goodbye my friend, it’s not the end… So glad we made it, time will never ever change it…’”

The New Kids on the Block in LA

The New Kids are on the LA Block. Sources reveal that all five New Kids on the Block members are in Los Angeles this week to take new publicity shots for the reunion tour that they have yet to officially announce. So it looks like it’s really happening. Up until now, I’ve just chalked it up to mere rumors and speculation. But with them all together and getting pictures taken, it seems all the more real. But then again, I’m not putting any bets down until they get pictured in a studio or rehearsing some dance moves. I wonder if they’ll do their old songs if they tour.

B-52s All Grown Up

In the late 80s and 90s, Fred Schneider and his new wave band, The B-52s, were able to score some mainstream success with hits like ‘Love Shack’ and ‘Roam’. If B-52s means you look like you’re 52 years old, then it’s pretty accurate. The 56-year old musician was recently spotted at a New York City screening on Thursday. He looked… nice.

The B-52s are reportedly releasing a new album called ‘Funplex’ in March. It will be their first original album in 16 years. If you have no idea who they are and what they sound like, Parliament Funkadelic has referred to The B-52s as “P-Funk for white people”.

With the boy band that spawned all boy bands rumored to be reuniting, other former boy band members just started popping out all over the place and Villa was deemed boy band central earlier this week. JC and Lance from NSYNC and the Lachey brothers from 98° were all present at the club in celebration of another former member of NSYNC and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ alum Joey Fatone. It was his 31st birthday.

What?! No Justin Timberlake? Come on! The Backstreet Boys are back. NKOTB is about to come back. Bring all the boy bands back in and start a man band rivalry!

Destiny’s Child Reunion

A mini Destiny’s Child reunion took place in Milan on Saturday when Kelly Rowland joined former band mate Beyonce and her boyfriend Jay-Z. Where was Michelle? Wasn’t she invited?

Anyway, the trio hit the Versace fashion show and were seated front row, in perfect view of the photographers! I wonder how Mister Armani feels about this. Beyonce is the face of Armani’s new fragrance yet there she was showing a lot of love and support for the competition. If Armani does have something to say, Beyonce can just say that she’s scouting for her own fashion line. Either way, girl has some explaining to do.

Robbie: Take That!

Well his Mum might be dreaming that her son will rejoin former band Take That as they climb to success with their reunion gig; but Robbie Williams is not welcomed by lead man Gary Barlow.

Only weeks after the band claimed the door was always open; Gary has now claimed there is “no place” for Robbie. Furthermore, Mark Owen can be quoted as saying, “We asked him when we reformed but he had commitments - he had to walk his dog that day.”

Ouch! Robbie is not having a good time at the moment. After splitting with the band in 1995, blaming his relationship with Barlow; he rose to stardom as a solo artist in his own right. But now it seems not only did the critics slash his latest album, Rudebox, he appears to have writers block.

Is this the end for our Rob?

Jason Donovan Returns

Other than a brief appearance on our TV screens in “I’m a Celebrity”; Jason Donovan has made more breaking news regarding his drug issues rather than the music business. But it has been revealed this week that the former Joseph star is going back on the road with a brand new UK tour in 2008.

Having worked with Stock, Aitken and Waterman in the late 1980s and had several hit singles including “Too Many Broken Hearts”, “Sealed With A Kiss” and “Especially For You”, a duet with Kylie Minogue; this new tour is said to be a greatest hits type tour; but may include some new material.

Well I can imagine it will be, ummm, interesting I think is the word I am looking for. Keep your eyes peeled and if you are a major fan tickets go on sale December 8th. Don’t all rush at once now…

Robbie Williams Take That

Robbie Williams’ Mum has been quoted as believing that her son is likely to perform with Take That again. Robbie is said to be very pleased for his former band’s current success; despite rumours that he himself is drying up and becoming “old news”.

Jan Williams said: “On the question of him doing something with them, I feel that will happen. It would be something he wanted to do. I’m thrilled that out of all the negative stuff that happened in the past, there’s now something great happening.’

Also to quell the rumours that Robbie is “losing it” as mentioned in recent papers, mummy dearest has said her son is a very happy boy at the moment; switching his time between recording and writing in his studio, and playing football with his mates.

Oh, well, if Mummy says so it must be true. Everyone can stop worrying now.

Michael Jacksons 5

1, 2, 3, 4, 5…that’s how many Jacksons there were performing back in the 1970s with “I Want You Back” and “Never Can Say Goodbye”. And now brother Jermaine says they’re well on their way to a reunion tour, set to begin sometime in 2008. It is planned to be an all out reunion, including brother Michael who left the group in 1985 to pursue his solo career.

Jermaine was the lead singer before Michael took over and has been instrumental in planning the reunion. He says Michael has been at the meetings and will definately be involved. “He has to be. He is a Jackson.”

According to Jermaine, this isn’t the first time the Jackson 5 have tried to come back together. Plans for an earlier regroup were set aside in 2005 due to Michael’s child abuse case.

Jermaine is hopeful that this tour will bring them closer together and closer to a new album. He says the band is currently in the studio working on a new project.

Personal opinion here - look at Michael as a musician and not as a person when you’re considering their reunion. Taking no sides here, but whether you believe in his guilt or innocence regarding events in his life, you can’t deny that he’s had some amazing musical accomplishments. Give him, and the other 4 Jacksons, some kudos for having the cajones to get back out there!

Zeppelin Almost as Good

Looks like the legendary rockers Led Zeppelin can’t quite reach the heights that they used to; vocally I mean. Whilst rehearsing for their first gig in 19 years, it transpires a bit of a rearrangement is required. Ageing frontman, Robert Plant has discovered he can no longer hit the high notes, so rehearsals have been in a lower key to “avoid any embarrassing wobbles”

Hmm sounds a bit like a struggle to me. Personally I will stick to listening to the vinyl tracks of the original 1976 albums, just in case. However more than a million fans have more faith than I do and applied for tickets to see the show, which has already been postponed for two weeks after guitarist Jimmy Page broke a finger. Oh dear. Some things just weren’t meant to be; read the signs! Only time will tell, maybe I will regret staying at home and missing the reunion; or maybe it will be cringe city.

Duran Duran - Red Carpet Massacre

Duran Duran throwing down with Timbaland? Creamed jeans are made of this! The New Wave legends just became eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (cough) and have a cracking new album to celebrate the latest stage of their artistic journey (rasp). Simon Le Bon, John Taylor and Nick Rhodes sound refreshed from their excellent gig at Live Earth, where they saved the planet with “Girls on Film.” They’re also contempo enough to sing about sleazy Craigslist sex in “Skin Divers,” meeting some lucky lady with “Google-dirty fingers.” As for the music, Timbaland has a history of dumbing it down when rock stars come calling, as in his ill-fated Beck team-up on “Diamond Dogs.” But he gives the Fab Five a sleek funk track on “Nite-Runner,” which could have been a leftover from FutureSex/ LoveSounds. Justin Timberlake even arrives to gloss it up — as far as Duran Duran are concerned, the union of the Timber-Snake is on the rise. Tim’s other two tracks, “Skin Divers” and “Zoom In,” are classic Durannie funk a la “Notorious.” The rest, produced by Tim protégé Nate “Danja” Hills (plus the band), has the skin-trade title track and another Timberlake collabo, “Falling Down.” JT and DD sound in sync — dirty pop boys have to stick together.

The Temptations

There’s only one surviving member left of the original Temptations and he is suing three former members of the band for using the name which he claims they have no right in doing.

Otis Williams filed a lawsuit on Friday where he alleges that he is the only person who has rights to the name ‘The Temptations’ but that Glenn Leonard, Ali Woodson and Barrington Henderson, who are former members of the group, have been performing under the name ‘Legendary Lead Singers of the Temptations’ and/or ‘The Temptations Reunion Show’ since 2004.

Williams claims this is copyright infringement and that they are hurting his reputation by accepting lesser billing and lesser fees.

The summer of reunions has extended to fall. So check out news of your favorite disbanded bands to see if they’re getting back together because they’re reuniting faster than Britney drives to Starbucks.

If you’ve heard of the band Aqua, whether you like it or not, the Danish group is one of those reuniting. After a six year break, the band will be putting out a greatest hits album including several new songs. They’re also planning to go on a European tour next year.

The band’s US Top 10 hit ‘Barbie Girl’ is climbing the UK charts again thanks to the remake by ‘Big Brother’ runners up, the blonde twins Sam and Amanda Marchant.
