While it was questionable that American Idol featured him as a mentor, Neil Diamond is proving that he’s back in a big way. According to Billboard, the singer is on his way to securing the #1 album spot next week with his new release ‘Home Before Dark’. It would be funny if it’s true because he will be dethroning Madonna and her ‘Hard Candy’. Another interesting tidbit, it will be his first #1 in the over 40 years of his in the biz. Billboard makes it a point to say that it’s Mother’s Day weekend and Neil’s music is totally mommy music.

It has been announced by organizers on Monday that the surprise performer at the legendary Glastonbury music festival in the UK this summer will be none other than Neil Diamond. The 67-year old ‘Sweet Caroline’ singer will perform on the main stage on the final day of the three-day event which will start on June 27. Does it even count as a surprise when it gets announced?
Jay-Z has also been confirmed as a headliner for one of the other nights. Well, that’s an interesting mix. At least, they weren’t slated to perform on the same day. That would surely put together a weird crowd.

You’ve sung it in the shower, you’ve sung it with your mates, you may have even braved the karaoke and belted it out one drunken evening, but have you ever wondered who the “Sweet Caroline” is that Neil Diamond wrote the song about? We all know and love (or loathe) the song, but for over 40 years Diamond has kept the secret of the true identity. But this week he reveals that he was inspired by a photograph of President Kennedy’s daughter, when she was about 10 years old.
“It was a picture of a little girl dressed to the nines in her riding gear, next to her pony,” Diamond recalled. “It was such an innocent, wonderful picture; I immediately felt there was a song in there.”
And years later that song came out, in less than an hour during a visit to a motel in Memphis.
The song was a No. 1 hit, and Neil got the opportunity to finally release his secret over satellite at Caroline Kennedy’s 50th birthday party last week.
Warm, touchin’ warm
Reachin’ out
Touchin’ me
Touchin’ you
These words were inspired by a 10 year old girl. Sweet or creepy? You decide. Caroline Kennedy is said to be “struck” by the revelation and very happy. Good for her.
