Etta James’ son Donto recently stated that his mother’s condition is improving and doctors have been able to control the infections that led to her hospitalization a couple of weeks ago. The legendary singer has been transferred to a medical center in a Los Angeles suburb and her son also said that she is eager to get back to performing although it’s still unknown when she will be released. I’m happy to hear that the music icon is making progress but it sounds like she still has a long way to go for a full recovery. Get well soon Etta!

Etta James is being sued by a guy who says that she hired him to be in her band and then went back on her word and caused him to lose a lot of money. Leo Nocentelli claims that he and the iconic singer reached an oral agreement in February of 2008 for him to play guitar on her tour which was set to last from March 2008 to March 2009. After playing a couple of shows with Etta, she became ill and was forced to cancel some of her dates. Leo says she forgot to tell him about the cancellation. According to the lawsuit, once Etta was healthy enough to perform again in August 2008, she brought back all the band members except him. Leo is suing for at least $50,000 for breach of contract.

2009 is shaping up to be a great year for British singer Adele. She recently picked up a Grammy for Best New Artist and come June, she will be playing with one of her idols, Etta James, at the legendary Hollywood Bowl. Adele just announced the news on her MySpace saying “I don’t actually know if I’m allowed to tell you yet but I just read it somewhere else so… I’ve been booked to play the Hollywood Bowl in June for a while now. But Etta James just got confirmed to co-headline it with me! Etta James is my favourite singer ever! This is the most amazing thing ever for me!”

Beyonce might be staying silent about Etta James’ wacked out verbal slap but Barack and Michelle Obama were apparently taken more than a little aback. A White House insider told the Chicago Sun-Times that the First Couple was stunned by the 71-year old singer’s remarks against Beyonce. The insider said “It never crossed anyone’s mind that there was anything inappropriate about Beyonce singing that song.” Worse yet, the source added “I’m sure some of the younger people involved didn’t even know she is alive!” That has to be worse than being told you have no business singing someone else’s song.

Here’s a look at Beyonce and Adrien Brody on the set of ‘Cadillac Records’ in New Jersey on Monday. Beyonce stars as the legendary blues singer Etta James and Adrien plays the legendary record producer Len Chess. Etta spoke to PageSix about Beyonce portraying her saying “Etta James ain’t been no angel! I don’t think she looks like me, but that’s all right. They can fix that up.” Is that possible?
The film chronicles the rise and fall of influential R&B record label Chess Records. They will also shoot in Mississippi later this month. Mos Def, Jeffrey Wright, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Cedric the Entertainer co-star in the movie.
