Billy Joel and Elton John have been planning a US tour this summer but it has been cancelled due to Billy’s year long career hiatus. Their last show will be on March 11th in Albany which means that they are skipping their highly anticipated show at Wrigley Field. Elton said “As far as I know, there will be no more Billy and Elton shows after the Albany show in New York on March 11th. It’s not my decision, it’s Billy’s. He has decided to take a year off. I’m so disappointed because when we came to Wrigley Field last year… it was like playing in the church of baseball. I was so delighted to be there, and we had such a wonderful two days. It (Joel’s hiatus) doesn’t gel with my plans but he’s a friend. And as an artist, you have to respect his decision.” Considering Billy’s last few months with his divorce and his daughter being hospitalized, I understand his decision.

As if Elton John doesn’t do enough already, the singer has decided to add Broadway producer to his resume. The musician and his partner David Furnish have joined the producing team of ‘Next Fall’, which centers around the relationship between two gay men while questioning religion and faith. According to the couple “After fulfilling experiences bringing new musicals to the stage, it was seeing this inspiring and timely new work that attracted us to take on our first play.” The production is set to open on March 11 but it has already enjoyed a pretty successful run last year while off-Broadway.

Sir Elton John is supporting his pal Eminem in his battle with drug addiction.

The music legend revealed he has been helping Eminem stay on the straight and narrow for 18 months and says the rapper is “doing brilliantly”.

Sir Elton told UK radio station BBC Radio 5: “I’ve been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he’s doing brilliantly. I’m there if people want my help. If people ask for help you tell them where to go but there’s no point advising people if they don’t want to do it.”

Eminem admitted earlier this year he got so hooked on drugs he would take as many as 20 Vicodin, Ambien and Valium a day.

He confessed: “The numbers got so high I don’t even know what I was taking.”

Even though Elton John was denied rights to adopt a 14-month old Ukrainian boy last September due to his age and lack of marital status, the singer has decided not to let that stop him from providing for the little guy that has meant so much to him. The music man’s partner David Furnish said that Elton intends on supporting the child and his brother with “the best health care, education and family options available to them.” Along with the couple’s generosity, Elton and David intend to campaign to change Ukrainian law as it does not recognize their British civil union.

Stephen Gately’s unpublished children’s fantasy novel, The Tree of Seasons, has been bought by a UK publisher.

Hodder & Stoughton boss Mark Booth picked up the rights to the book the tragic Boyzone star was writing before his sudden death on the island of Majorca last month.

Gately’s partner Andrew Cowles will embark on finishing the book with the help of the band’s remaining members. Sir Elton John, a friend of Gately, will write a foreword.

The band has been shattered by his death and gathered for a weekend tribute in London’s West End organised by Cowles.

Breda Purdue of Hachette Ireland has acquired Irish rights to the book. which will be published in hardback in April. The deal was brokered by literary agent Piers Blofeld. He said: “I was so impressed to see how much work and imagination Stephen had put into The Tree of Seasons and it is heartbreaking that he didn’t get to finish it. We are very proud to be involved in publishing this wonderful story and we feel that it will reach the hearts of a generation of children and will be a lasting memorial to a wonderful young man.”
