It’s been reported that Christina Aguilera has scored herself her first big screen role in the upcoming flick ‘Burlesque’. That movie is now bound to become a battle of the divas as iconic singer Cher has also been cast. It is a musical after all. Cher plays the owner of the burlesque club at which Christina’s character works. Cher also acts as the mentor to Christina’s small-town girl character. Considering the interactions that their characters are going to have, you know there’s going to be a duet or two between the divas. That’s going to be something to really look forward to – even if the movie sucks.
Despite performing in Las Vegas, Cher reveals that she actually lives like a nun, refraining from speech to preserve her voice, communicating via text and email instead and not having much sex. At 62, the singer is more focused on work and has a new album in the works which she describes as “a little bit more guitar-oriented, a little bit more like ‘I Found Someone’ feeling, and there’s some stuff that’s still sort of guitar-oriented, but it’s got a Southern feeling to it. You know, I just find songs that I like and then I do them and hopefully they make something cohesive.” I wonder when her new album will come out.
I doubt Beyonce will still look this good when she goes past her 40s. One of the original divas, Diano Ross, looked ravishing in red at a concert in Las Vegas this past weekend. The singer is already 64 years old but she still looks mighty amazing. People can only wish to look like she does at that age when they’re only 34! I wonder what her secret is to still looking so gorgeous. I bet she can make money off of that. She can have it patented. Diana will be around forever! She may even outlast Cher! Ok, that’s still up for debate.
Singer, actress and diva Jill Scott will be welcoming her first child into this world in April. Congratulations! Jill spilled the beans late last week at a press conference for her new HBO show ‘The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency’. She revealed that she found out about the pregnancy just before leaving for Botswana, where she filmed the series. She said “The first trimester I spent in Botswana. That was one of the biggest challenges of my life. First trimester! You’re sick every morning. It was seven hours time difference, the heat, the bugs, the 14 hour days.” I wonder what she’s having, a boy or a girl.
The singer recently declared in an interview that she is too busy to write new songs. She had this to say: “I wish I could write songs. I have a lot of ideas. A tune will come into my head and sometimes a lyric, but I never really sit down and try to make something from it. It’s just for me. And I think I’m too busy anyway.” It gets really weird when somebody who’s more or less referred to as a “musician” doesn’t have the time to write new material. What can she be so busy doing that she doesn’t have enough time to do what could be considered her job?
Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5: The Musical’ premiered in Los Angeles on Tuesday night with a couple of minor glitches but one big surprise to pick up the slack. The diva herself was there to introduce the show. Dolly welcomed the audience and engaged them for a bit. She said that since it was the first showing that there might be some stopping and starting but she promised that she will get up to do a show if that happens. The first act started and about halfway through, the moving set came to a stop. After a moment of silence, Dolly kept her promise and got on stage. She answered some audience questions and then started to perform. She sang ‘9 to 5’ and ‘I Will Always Love You’.
Cher’s upcoming wedding plans have been affected by her son’s mystery illness.
The ‘Believe’ singer – who was set to marry Tim Medvetz by the end of the year – reportedly can’t stop worrying about Elijah Blue Allman’s unknown condition.
A source said: “This should be the best time of Cher’s life. She is enjoying a love affair with daredevil adventurer Tim, and they plan to get married by the end of the year. But poor Elijah keeps playing on her mind.”
Elijah, 32, began exhibiting strange symptoms since returning from New Delhi, India, two years ago, and doctors have not been able to diagnose his illness.
The source added: “At first he believed he got a bad case of food poisoning in India. As soon as he got back to Los Angeles, he began complaining of a constantly upset stomach and flu-like symptoms. Chronic fatigue, bowel problems, headaches and a host of intestinal troubles soon followed. In the past two years, Elijah has had over 40 colonics, along with other holistic treatments. But that hasn’t helped either.”
Elijah is now seeking treatment at specialist clinic Leonardis Klinik in Germany.
Amy Winehouse could be dead within three months after developing emphysema.
The ‘Rehab’ singer – who was admitted to hospital after collapsing at her home last week – has been warned she must quit drugs or face using a wheelchair and oxygen supplies to help her breathe as the deadly lung condition worsens.
Amy’s father Mitch said: “To think this could be my beautiful 24-year-old daughter’s life is preposterous. But if drugs mean more to her than breathing properly, then so be it. The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs it won’t just ruin her voice, it will kill her. It’s in its early stage but had it gone on for another month they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there with a mask on her face struggling to breathe.”
Emphysema eats away at lungs leaving sufferers breathless and frail. Despite doctors’ warnings Amy is still determined to perform at Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday concert in London’s Hyde Park on Friday and the Glastonbury music festival on Saturday.
A special St John’s Ambulance crew will be on permanent standby for the star on Friday. Concert organizers are also refusing her request for alcohol in her rider, and her backstage area will feature a private hospital suite.
It seems like everyone’s turning into a diva these days and it doesn’t matter if you’re male or a has-been. Cyndi Lauper showed her true diva colors last Friday when the singer was scheduled to perform on CBS’ Early Show but ended up storming off complete with a screaming session. There were some technical difficulties during her sound check that supposedly set her off. Instead of waiting for whatever to be fixed, the diva just left without performing. That’s so lame. Newsflash Cyndi – you’re not Madonna! You don’t even have her popularity so you don’t have the right to be a bitch about what happened.
Tina Turner says Beyonce Knowles will never be “rock ‘n’ roll.” The ‘Simply the Best’ singer claims she was an inspiration for Beyonce, but although she is a great singer the former Destiny’s Child star will never match her for raw talent.
Tina said: “Beyonce was one of the ones that were sitting in front of her little television, her little self looking at the big screen when I was Tina in the ‘Ike and Tina Turner days’ and she took from all the stars at the time. Diana Ross influenced her, I influenced her. What I like about her is that she knows what she’s doing, she really did her homework and decided to stay elegant. She’s not rock ‘n’ roll – she’s totally elegant. Unless your rock ‘n’ roll from the heart you can’t mimic that. The stance, the movements, it has to come from the inside.”
Tina, 68, and Beyonce, 26, performed together at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards this February.
