Boy George has been banned from performing in America. The former Culture Club singer was planning a string of US shows but has reportedly been denied a visa by the country’s immigration officials.
George – who was ordered to clean the streets of New York as community service in 2006 after pleading guilty to falsely reporting a burglary – complained: “I’m pretty devastated about this forthcoming tour and having my visa application denied seems unfair after I swept the streets of New York spotless. I committed a crime and I happily paid the consequences and I should be allowed to move on.”
The 47-year-old star, real name George O’Dowd, wanted to perform a free concert in New York to show his appreciation to the Department of Sanitation for their kindness during his community service.
He previously said: “The people I worked alongside showed great kindness to me at a very difficult time, and I wanted to thank them all in a way that would show my appreciation.”
George was set to launch his North American tour, starting in Aspen, on July 10.

Someone is in need of money. Industry insiders are saying that Boy George will be touring North America for the first time in a decade this summer. He is also said to be going to perform his Culture Club music. Boy George’s month-long tour will be kicking off on July 10 in Aspen, Colorado and will wrap up on August 23 in Dallas, Texas. Why would he want to go on tour now? It’s not like anyone still cares about him. I’m not sure if there are any Culture Club fans left either. They may have had hits but they’re nothing now.

A February trial date has been set for singer Boy George on the charges that he falsely imprisoned a male escort by chaining him to the wall.On Thursday, Thames Magistrate Court in London assigned the date of February 25 after the former pop star was indicted for the alleged incident which occured at his flat in east London. George remained silent during the proceedings, speaking only to confirm that his real name is George O’Dowd.
The alleged incident occured on April 28, with George reportedly chaining up the 28-year-old escort. As of now, George has made no comment about the incident and has no plans to talk to reporters. The February trial will be held at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
This is not George’s first run in with the law this year. In August, he performed a week of community service in New York, his punishment for admitting that he falsely reported a burglary at his apartment in Lower Manhattan. A stash of cocaine was found when police responded to the call.
Apparently George is following the directions of his fashion label a little too closely – B-Rude.

46-year old Boy George was formally charged in London after a 28-year old man accused the cross-dressing front man of the Culture Club of false imprisonment and common assault.
Several reports from the UK are saying that Boy George, real name George O’Dowd, was ordered to appear in court on November 22. Reports are also claiming that the incident in question took place way back in April when a Norwegian man accused the singer of chaining and threatening him at his home where he went as a ‘photo model’.
Boy George’s brother Kevin actually thought that allegations were hilarious and that the arrest did not phase his brother. But how about now?
