The Backstreet Boys have a new music video out for their song ‘Bigger’, which is the second single off of their latest album ‘This is Us’. It looks like the band’s video was shot in Japan, shortly after singer Brian Littrell was diagnosed and quarantined with the swine flu. The Backstreet Boys are scheduled to be back in the land of the rising sun in early 2010 to perform a string of concert dates on their ‘This is Us’ tour at the Saitama Super Arena, World Hall and the Nippon Gaishi Hall. When it looks like your career is dwindling down, trust that you still have something to go back to in Japan.

Elton John recently cancelled several concerts in the UK and Ireland due to influenza. However, new reports have come out saying that the singer has been diagnosed with a serious case of E. Coli. As a result, his 3 upcoming gigs in Seattle and Portland with Billy Joel have also been postponed. Sir Elton is currently getting some treatment at a London hospital for the bacterial infection. Ticket holders have been asked to hang on to their stubs as his camp works out a new schedule for the postponed shows. I hope he gets better soon! He needs to worry about his health first before anything else.

It seems that the band’s fans are none too happy with their planned shows in London as there are many complaints that the ticket prices are monstrous. These are some of the comments on Bon Jovi’s website with regards to the prices of the tickets: “I am going to stand up for what I believe in and use my earnings to feed my kids rather than lining some fat cat’s pockets.”, “After writing an album about the world’s problems with the recession the prices are just a mockery.” Well, this is what happens when Bon Jovi goes with a promoter like AEG… who have just lost a fortune with Michael Jackson taking them by surprise with his death like that. Fans are talking about a boycott on the concerts… maybe this one will actually happen on the first day.

After a young fan and Virginia Tech student, Morgan Harrington, went missing during one of Metallica’s concerts on October 17, the band is now adding $50,000 to the reward being offered for her safe return. The girl’s parents have already announced a $100,000 reward for her return or information leading to the arrest of the party responsible for her disappearance. Along with the campaign website FindMorgan.com, Metallica also put a plea up on their official website asking fans to look at their video and photographic footage from the concert to see if she can be seen, along with a description which read “Morgan has blond hair and blue eyes, is 5′6″, 120 lbs., and was wearing a black ‘Pantera’ T-shirt, black skirt, and black boots. She was not carrying ID or a cell phone. Morgan was separated from her friends shortly before 9:00 pm at the venue.” I hope they find her soon.

U2 have confirmed via video blog that their sold-out concert at the Pasadena Rose Bowl in California, Sunday 25th October 2009 will be streamed free, in full and live on YouTube. It’s the first time a show of this size will be streamed live.

The Rose Bowl show is the penultimate U2 show this year – with more to come in 2010 – and already is set to host the venue’s biggest ever audience of over 96, 000 fans. The 360˚ Tour, which has been critically acclaimed and “re-invents rock’n’roll”*, will now boast unique access for fans worldwide – as fans in territories yet to be visited by the tour, or not at all, will be able to enjoy the whole show online. Managed in partnership with Live Nation, this sell-out tour has broken attendance records in most venues it has visited – its success due in part to increased capacity coupled with a lower ticket price and great sight lines afforded by the stunning in-the-round stage set. Visit U2.com or youtube.com/u2official for details of how to join in this ground-breaking on-line event.

U2 manager Paul McGuinness said – “The band has wanted to do something like this for a long time. As we’re filming the LA show, it’s the perfect opportunity to extend the party beyond the stadium. Fans often travel long distances to come to see U2 – this time U2 can go to them, globally.”

YouTube will be streaming live across five continents. The show will be available in the usual You Tube way, as video-on-demand, following two full replays – after the live stream – on both U2.com and You Tube.

“YouTube is thrilled to be able to provide our global audience with a live streaming performance from one of the world’s greatest bands” – Chris Maxcy, Director of YouTube Partner Development. “We are always looking for new ways to connect fans around the world with their favourite artists, and this is the perfect opportunity to do just that.”

The unstoppable Sir Paul McCartney will close 2009 on a bang, announcing the Good Evening Europe tour.

Sir Paul, 67, said: “This is my chance to bring our current show home to where it all began. Starting in Hamburg, ending in London and rocking everywhere in between. I’m very much looking forward to ending the year on a high.”

The tour will comprise seven dates and commence in the German city of Hamburg, where the Beatles played. Shows in the cities of Berlin, Arnhem, Paris, Dublin and Cologne will follow before a London concert at the O2 on December 22 – 46 years since the Beatles played their first Christmas show at Liverpool’s Empire Theatre.

David Campbell, chief executive of AEG Europe, owners and operators of the O2, said: “Since we opened over two years ago, Paul McCartney has been the dream act. I am absolutely thrilled that dream has now become a reality and this true British musical icon will play the building. It doesn’t get much better than this.”

Pop singer Whitney Houston is set to embark on a European tour beginning in the UK on April 8. This will be the diva’s first full tour since her ‘My Love is Your Love’ tour back in 1999. Whitney is also scheduled to appear on Britain’s The X Factor on Sunday. In addition to the UK, she will also be making stops in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Belgium. Surely, if she’s doing a European tour, an American tour will follow. Hey, it may even come before then considering that the European tour doesn’t start until April. I’m sure Whitney fans are eagerly waiting for that announcement.

Gloria Estefan treated 2000 lucky winners to her concert in Puerto Rico this past weekend. Close to 17,000 Puerto Rican government workers in the country are being laid off due to the recession. The country has a 15 percent unemployment rate, higher than any of the states. The singer bought all of the remaining upper level tickets to be raffled off to some of the laid off employees. I’m sure that it made a lot of people happy. That was very generous of her. She just gave everyone another reason to love her. I wonder if she has any jobs that she could offer them too.
