Johnny Rotten, also known as John Lydon, the lead singer of The Sex Pistols has some choice words for his fellow British front men, specifically Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. The punk rock singer ranted “Coldplay and Radiohead bug the hell out of me because it’s so soulless. It just seems pointless. It’s nice, but it’s tosh (rubbish). They don’t care about you. They care about lining their coffers (money). There’s nothing about heart and soul.” I’m pretty sure that the members of the two bands and their legions of fans would beg to differ. I just think that someone’s getting cranky with old age.

Apparently Chris Martin is a bit worried about Coldplay’s fans so they’ve decided to work with Brian Eno in order to make a new album that will be pleasing to all of the band’s fans. A source said the following about Coldplay’s new move: “Chris is determined not to be seen as a huge commercial rock juggernaut, filling stadiums and cashing in.” Right… that’s why they’re hiring a specialist to make their album instead of just going with their artistic gut. Really nice job for Coldplay, what’s next, lip-synching? They’d better not go to Australia with that… they might actually sell out!

I am really hesitant to actually develop a liking to this song but it has really grown on me. DJ/producer David Guetta has a new song out called ‘When Love Takes Over’ and it features former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland. The song sounds like a blatant rip off of a Coldplay song. It may seem bad to be sort of a copycat but when a song is done as beautifully as this one, I think you can get over it after a while. I know I have. It’s nice to see another member of Destiny’s Child scoring a hit other than Beyonce. You get tired of her after a while.

Folk rock legend Cat Stevens is claiming that Coldplay has ripped off one of his tunes. The iconic musician who now goes by Yusuf Islam, thinks Chris Martin and company’s ‘Viva La Vida’ was heavily inspired by his 1973 song ‘Foreigner Suite’. He says “If you listen to it, it’s mine! It’s the ‘Foreigner Suite’ it is!” Cat isn’t seeking any sort of monetary compensation for his claims though. He just wants the credit that he feels he deserves. Cat isn’t the first to accuse Coldplay for plagiarizing though. Oddly enough, both claims say that ‘Viva La Vida’ is the offending song. I think that just makes it a very big coincidence.
