The Who’s Pete Townshend may have to quit the iconic rock band after the return of his tinnitus, a painful ringing in the ears caused by noise-induced hearing loss. The legendary guitarist doesn’t think that The Who can continue on if his health doesn’t improve, saying “If my hearing is going to be a problem, we’re not delaying shows. We’re finished. I can’t really see any way around the issue.” The band already cancelled for both the Coachella and New Orleans Jazz Festivals but Pete is meeting with a specialist at the urging of Neil Young who is also dealing with tinnitus. Pete has been given an in-ear monitor which could prevent more damage and the band will get to test it out when they play on March 30 for the charity Teenage Cancer Trust. I hope it goes well.

The dates and bands for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival have been announced! The three-day affair will be held on April 16 to April 18 with the likes of Jay-Z, Vampire Weekend, Muse, Faith No More, David Guetta, Gorillaz, DJ Lance Rock, Aeroplane, Devo, Coheed and Cambria, Kaskade, Gossip, Mew, Sia, Corrine Bailey Rae, Shooter Jennings, Thom Yorke, Mutemath and many others. Will you be going to the show? I’m still pretty iffy about this given that the usually indie-friendly event has Jay-Z as its headliner. The meaning of the whole thing kind of got lost on me.

Soundgarden lead singer recently took to his Twitter to announced the big news of the band’s reunion after being apart for 12 years. The rock star said “The 12 year break is over & school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!” It is being rumored that the band has planned West Coast tour dates for the spring and are considering a performance at the Coachella Music Festival. I guess music fans are going to get a taste of the 90s in 2010. The question is, do these guys still have fans around or does no one care anymore?

If you’ve heard rumors about the likes of David Bowie, Radiohead and Daft Punk being part of this year’s Coachella Music Festival, don’t buy tickets if you happen to be going because of them. The rumors are just that – nothing but rumors. All three artists have gone on the record that they will not be participating in the events and that they haven’t even been asked to participate. But hey, it’s not too late yet right? The organizers of the fest can still make some things happen. The least they can do is make good on the rumors. Unless they also happen to be affected by the economic crisis and they can’t afford those three acts.

Prince is a music icon and a consummate performer. It’s quite understandable that he doesn’t come cheap. The purple majesty was recently added to the lineup of the Coachella Music Festival near the Palm Springs later this month and it’s been made clear how and why his addition came to be. A source says that “Prince was a late late addition to the line-up. The promoters added him to try and sell more tickets and make up for a less than stellar – in comparison to years past – roster of performers.” And it reportedly cost them. Another source says that “The exact amount Prince is getting paid for his Coachella performance is $4.8 million.”
