The New York Post reported that Billy Joel’s daughter with Christie Brinkley, 23-year old musician Alexa Ray Joel, was taken to the emergency room in NYC last week after a failed suicide attempt. The paper says that she ingested a large number of sleeping pills and was rushed to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Manhattan. The singer’s rep, Claire Mercuri said “Alexa is stable. Her doctors are assessing her needs and that’s all we can say at this moment.” Alexa was conscious at St. Vincent’s Hospital and sources say that she is expected to survive. That’s good to hear. However, suicide is never the answer!
The musician’s daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, recently attempted to commit suicide and even though she failed and Billy Joel assured everyone that she is now out of harm’s way, it seems that he failed to show up at the hospital where his daughter was admitted. Apparently, the reason for which Billy Joel didn’t show up is the fact that he was trying to avoid creating too much chaos at the hospital. What about a disguise? A fake moustache… surely no one would recognize him anyway. Even so, it’s his daughter… Billy Joel would surely wrestle a few ferocious paparazzi to see his daughter in such circumstances, wouldn’t he?
Elton John and Billy Joel have had to postpone more tour dates. Originally, the dates were pushed back due to Sir Elton’s bout with influenza. Now, it’s being said that Billy is not feeling well and has caused the postponement. There are no details as of yet as to what is afflicting the piano man but I hope that it’s nothing serious. The good thing about all this though is that the concert dates have already been rescheduled so all those fans who have tickets to the postponed dates don’t have to worry about not seeing their idols perform on stage.
It looks like another couple is headed for divorce court as 60-year old Billy Joel and his much younger wife Katie Lee have reportedly split. Apparently, the iconic singer became jealous of a relationship that Katie had struck up with a younger man. He also didn’t like the way that she couldn’t recognize any of his songs. Heck, she wasn’t even born yet when ‘Piano Man’ became a hit. Billy recently released a statement via his rep saying “After nearly five years of marriage Billy Joel & Katie Lee Joel have decided to separate. This decision is a result of much thoughtful consideration. Billy & Katie remain caring friends with admiration and respect for each other.”
Christie Brinkley, the former wife of singer Billy Joel, 60, has reacted to news he was separating from his wife of five years, Katie Lee , 27.
Brinkley together with daughter Alexa Ray Joel (pictured) said they felt for the music legend.
"My heart goes out to them," Brinkley said. "It is sad news, but Billy is a great dad and a great friend, so of course I wish him the best."
Alexa Ray, 24 and bearing a striking resemblance to her dad, said she already knew of the split with Lee. "This is old news for me,” she said in a video shown on an entertainment website.
"I heard this a while ago. I was the first to know, okay – I’m his daughter. But you know what? I’m completely supportive of my father and very protective of him … I’m behind him 100 per cent. So I’m just there for him right now."
The mother and daughter were attending the 6th Annual Wayuu Taya Foundation Fundraising Gala in New York City. The non-profit foundation helps improve the lives of Latin-American indigenous people.
