After early sales number showed that Barbra Streisand and Mariah Carey were neck and neck for the number 2 spot on the Billboard album charts last week but the legendary singer actually pulled off the unexpected. Barbra came in at the top of the mountain, beating not only Mariah but fan favorite band Paramore as well. After all of these years, Barbra is still number 1. Congratulations! For someone who did very little to no promotion at all, she certainly came in with a huge surprise. She’s amazing really. The day that she fails to make a huge splash would be the day that pigs fly.
According to Billboard, Sade is currently in the studio working on a new album. It has been almost a decade since the singer released an album of new material as her last album ‘Lovers Rock, was released in 2000. All I can say about that is finally! The reclusive soul singer who is known to take lengthy breaks in between releases has regrouped with her band and hopes to release the new album before the end of the year. Fellow Sony recording artist and friend Maxwell has heard some of the new tracks and said “Trust me, it’s so monolithic it’ll shake you in your shoes!”
Barbra Streisand’s highly anticipated televised concert special was a big old bomb but the diva sure knows how to push a DVD. The singer’s new three disc DVD set ‘Streisand: The Concerts’ is currently sitting on the top of the Billboard Top Music DVD chart in the US and the UK. The DVD has set a record by selling more copies than any other music DVD that’s been released this year. Nice work! I guess she’s recovered more than enough from that crappy televised show that she did. Good for her. I’d rather forget that show ever happened and the DVD sales are nice distractions.
Yoko Ono has scored her forth number one dance hit on the Billboard Chart.
Her new version of her late husband John’s anthem ‘Give Peace A Chance’ has topped the American based dance chart this week.
Yoko has done it before. She was number one in May 2003 with ‘Walking On Thin Ice’, number one in November 2004 with ‘Everyman Has A Man Who Loves Him/ Every Woman Has A Woman Who Loves Her’ in November 2004 and number one with ‘No No No’ earlier this year.
Yoko recorded the new version of ‘Give Peace A Chance’ so that it would be adopted by a new generation of clubbers, music fans and DJs.
“I thank you with all my heart and send you much love”, Yoko said on news of her latest hit.
While it was questionable that American Idol featured him as a mentor, Neil Diamond is proving that he’s back in a big way. According to Billboard, the singer is on his way to securing the #1 album spot next week with his new release ‘Home Before Dark’. It would be funny if it’s true because he will be dethroning Madonna and her ‘Hard Candy’. Another interesting tidbit, it will be his first #1 in the over 40 years of his in the biz. Billboard makes it a point to say that it’s Mother’s Day weekend and Neil’s music is totally mommy music.
Janet Jackson is looking smoking hot as she graces the cover of the new Billboard magazine. No one can look quite as classy and sassy as Miss Jackson can. The cover makes a great point too. “With a new label, a new outlook and a new single on the charts, Ms. Jackson is poised for success.”
However, not everyone seems to think so. Despite ‘Feedback’ being a great single, it really isn’t selling that well or performing amazingly on the charts. I’m not quite sure why. Maybe she just took too long to make her comeback. Or maybe Janet fans need to step it up a notch or two.
