Singer Annie Lennox was honored with the 2009 Woman of Peace award in Berlin at a Nobel Peace Laureate summit. Annie has been involved in raising awareness of HIV/AIDS especially in women and children in South Africa. She gathered 23 female singers to record the song ‘SING’ for her SING organization that has raised $2 million to provide treatment, testing, HIV education and prevention programs in the region. Annie said “I want to express my profound gratitude and deep humility. I honor all the women working around the globe to reduce the effects of this pandemic. This is for them, they truly deserve it.” Congratulations!

The former “Eurythmics” singer has recently stated how much of a drag the music industry really is. Annie Lennox said: “The music industry is a bloody nightmare. The egos, the slightly criminal elements, the betrayers, the ones who want to screw you, the ones who were in it for this, that or the other. Sometimes I’ve been so shocked at how vile somebody has been. But you just have to let it go otherwise it could drive you mad.” Well, Annie Lennox seems to have really hit a soft spot there. Unfortunately it’s not just the music industry that contains the types of specimens Annie Lennox describes, and they find it very easy to shift from one area to another. I wonder if there’s a special insecticide for them.

According to a report, Annie Lennox must sit through at least six months of physiotherapy to recover from the spinal surgery she had recently before she can even walk properly again. The singer reportedly said “I could only drag my leg around the house. Something told me urgent action was required. I had micro surgery on Friday morning. This is the fifth time I’ve gone under the scalpel and each time I think it’s miraculous. I can now walk again slowly, without the drag, but it’s going to take at least six months of physiotherapy before I start to walk more normally again.” You can do it Annie! Never lose hope!

Sweet dreams are made of these but definitely not of back pain. According to the singer’s official website, former Eurythmics singer Annie Lennox is recovering from spinal surgery after being forced by a back injury to return home early from an AIDS conference in Mexico. Surgeons operated on Annie at a London hospital last week to release a trapped nerve in her back that was affecting her left leg. The surgery went as planned and Annie is now recovering at home. The injury also forced her to cancel her appearance at the Edinburgh Festival of Politics where she was due to talk about her AIDS awareness campaign, SING.

Annie Lennox is the latest artist to be dropped by her record label. There has been a slew of artists being dropped but I was surprised to learn of Annie’s release mainly because she wasn’t part of the whole American Idol thing.
A jilted Annie went on the record talking about how she felt about the whole thing saying “They totally ignored me. It was bizarre. It was a kick in the teeth. They didn’t return my phone calls or emails for three weeks. I’m trying to find out what’s behind it. Probably a good thing I’m no longer with them – mild understatement.”
