If you thought that Richie Sambora’s recent DUI arrest was his biggest problem, think again. The Bon Jovi guitarist is now getting the fallen American Idol treatment as he is not doing gigs at condominiums. The rocker recently appeared at the Las Olas River House in Fort Lauderdale, Florida using his downtime between Bon Jovi gigs, as they are currently on tour, to play the gig. I guess there were no mall openings or ground breakings that day. Who would have thought that this iconic rock star would ever experience such a shameful day? Those fallen idols must be laughing so hard right now.

The curvaceous diva that is Mariah Carey is this week’s music mentor to the final seven contestant on American Idol. I wonder if they will be singing Mariah’s songs. And I wonder what the heck David Cook will do. I’m also thinking about whether Mariah will lip synch through her performance on the elimination show like she did on German Idol. If she does, I’m sure she’ll get a very ugly criticism from Simon. In other Idol news, you can now vote for the winner’s single on AmericanIdol.com. There are some pretty great songs there so think about what you want to hear and who you want to hear sing it.

It’s been a while since I even heard the name of Jeff Buckley and I can’t even come up with a song title of his but ‘lo and behold, his version of ‘Hallelujah’ is in the runner-up spot on iTunes. American Idol contestant Jason Castro performed the song on last week’s show and both judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell mentioned that the Jeff Buckley version is one of their favorites. The power of Idol rules all! I wonder what song will become a hit again after Idol favorites perform them. Bring back Britney Spears! She needs the money after all.

His record label may be in the dumps, especially after having to drop a couple of American Idols, but Clive Davis sure knows how to throw a good party. It was too good of a party for the elusive Whitney Houston to pass up so she showed up at the pre-Grammy soiree on Saturday night. And can I just say that she is looking amazing?!
The multi-platinum selling artist has been working on her so-called comeback album forever now but there is still no release date for it. People are getting impatient Whitney. You need to give us something before we decided that we just don’t want you anymore.

While it’s being reported that Paula Abdul is going to perform at this year’s Super Bowl, it is also being said that the once singer is not planning a musical comeback. She just did the one-off song for her fellow American Idol judge Randy Jackson’s new album. And I hate to say it, but it’s actually really good. It’s called ‘Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow’. Her vocals may have been manipulated beyond belief and the song sounds like something that should have been on Britney’s last album or Janet’s new one. They may even play this on the radio! But during the Super Bowl? No thanks.

Annie Lennox is the latest artist to be dropped by her record label. There has been a slew of artists being dropped but I was surprised to learn of Annie’s release mainly because she wasn’t part of the whole American Idol thing.
A jilted Annie went on the record talking about how she felt about the whole thing saying “They totally ignored me. It was bizarre. It was a kick in the teeth. They didn’t return my phone calls or emails for three weeks. I’m trying to find out what’s behind it. Probably a good thing I’m no longer with them - mild understatement.”

If this piece of news is true, this is what I would call a train wreck waiting to happen. Paula Abdul is reportedly in talks to perform at the Super Bowl next month. How exactly was the connection made? The Super Bowl is being shown on Fox this year. Paula stars on Fox’s American Idol. She is doing a duet with fellow Idol judge Randy Jackson for his new CD and voila. Paula hasn’t released an album in over a decade. Fox cannot be stupid enough to let this happen! Why can’t she just remain the hardly understood judge on Idol?

Blondie singer Deborah Harry has condemned the popularity of reality TV shows, insisting music moguls are giving youngsters false hope. The 63-year-old star accuses show producers, like American Idol judge Simon Cowell, of encouraging talentless youngsters and wrongly promising them a career in the music industry. I know this is wrong and it is like playing with the careers of young minds all who think that these busted up so called celebs can make them famous too and they can have all the luxuries that they command and can fulfill all their dreams. But on the other side if contestants reach to the audition round of the reality contest then there has to be some potential in them to have made it so far. I think on the flip side of things, Deborah is the one who is out of tunes with today’s times, things have changed and there are far greater opportunities for young aspirants today than ever.

Former American Idol runner up Clay Aiken has been singing a medley of classics at his most recent ‘Soft Rock in a Heard Place Tour 2007’. Somebody better give the guy a music dictionary and have him look at the definition of ‘classics’.
His fans, the Claymates, may have gone wild about it during his latest concert in Frisco, Texas on Tuesday but I just had to shake my head and keep wondering when he’d admit that he is gay.
Apparently, Clay thinks that the following set list is filled with some classic music.

Eighties pop star-turned-American Idol Judge Paula Abdul is set to launch her first fragrance after realizing she has a good nose for a hit smell. The Straight Up singer has partnered with noses at perfume firm Fermenich to create her new scent Sexy Thoughts. She admits she only agreed to release the perfume after spraying it on her and taking it for a test smell - and getting a string of compliments. She says, “It’s fun, it’s flirty, it’s chic. It’s sexy… It totally captures the spirit of who I am.” There is already a barrage of celebrities who have a perfume of their name but what I think is special of her is that after being out of the music scene for such a long time she has managed to keep herself in tune with times and then have her first fragrance lunched.

Everyone has noticed the closeness between Idols Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis but they’ve denied the coupling up and down. But when even after the American Idol light has died down, their being cozy is raising some eyebrows.
A witness spotted the finalists holding hands while shopping at a Fry’s Electronics store near LA. They wandered the store undisturbed and seemingly happy to be together. Blake was overheard saying to Jordin that ‘we should call your mom’. Hoping for a little motherly advice on which flat screen to buy?
The pair will tour with the rest of the Idol crew this summer, but from the looks of things, they’ve got their own duet.

Paula Abdul is hitting back after a phone call between the American Idol judge and her reps was leaked on Thursday. This world is media savvy and well nothing is right or wrong, its just they way the person in question perceives it to be. Paula has said “I am deeply hurt and extremely disappointed that someone has taken a private telephone conversation that I had with my representatives and released it to the media,” She goes on to say “This is not only illegal but also highly unethical. While I don’t feel a need to justify or explain my conversation, even as a public figure I do feel my privacy has been violated and find this action to be unacceptable.” What is acceptable and what is not is mostly decided by the people who read these stories and more over it’s also a case where the media wants to report something that is – selling their paper. The call that was recorded is about Abdul complaining and crying about the way her representatives has been treating her so badly and she never had come across such a period before.

The American Idol of two years past Carrie Underwood went home with three awards from the Academy of Country Music awards. She walked the orange carpet on the arms of Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo but giggled out the “fact” that they are just friends. Also walking the carpet were Carrie’s idol-mates Kellie Pickler and Bucky Covington.
I thought it was American Idol. I highly doubt a large number of voters are country lovers. No offense to the country music industry because there are great songs out there. I just find it bland as in there’s no excitement there. Except maybe the fact that Carrie’s dating a QB and Kellie’s chest has seemed to bloom. Er, right.
