Spanish experts find Boyzone star Stephen Gately had heart condition
Boyzone singer Stephen Gately had an undiagnosed heart condition that caused him to collapse after drinking in Majorca, it has been revealed.
According to a report in the UK newspaper The Sun, the 33 year-old star was dead for eight hours before his body was discovered.
Now forensics experts in Spain have concluded that Gately died after collapsing from the undiagnosed condition and their findings have been presented to a local judge.
Scientists at The National Toxicology Institute in Barcelona ruled out drink or drugs as a factor. They listed atheromatosis, a thickening of arteries, as the underlying cause.
The report states: “Gately had been dead for approximately eight hours when his body was discovered. There are no indications of a violent death.”
