Hodder & Stoughton boss Mark Booth picked up the rights to the book the tragic Boyzone star was writing before his sudden death on the island of Majorca last month.
Gately’s partner Andrew Cowles will embark on finishing the book with the help of the band’s remaining members. Sir Elton John, a friend of Gately, will write a foreword.
The band has been shattered by his death and gathered for a weekend tribute in London’s West End organised by Cowles.
Breda Purdue of Hachette Ireland has acquired Irish rights to the book. which will be published in hardback in April. The deal was brokered by literary agent Piers Blofeld. He said: “I was so impressed to see how much work and imagination Stephen had put into The Tree of Seasons and it is heartbreaking that he didn’t get to finish it. We are very proud to be involved in publishing this wonderful story and we feel that it will reach the hearts of a generation of children and will be a lasting memorial to a wonderful young man.”
