When you’ve got a band that has a hit called ‘Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter’, would you want to mess with them? That’s exactly what one company has done when they set themselves up for a fight with Iron Maiden when they named their comic book “Iron and the Maiden”. The iconic rock band is now suing Iron and the Maiden, LLC because, according to the lawsuit filed in US District Court, the confusingly similar name was a ploy used to profit off of the band’s heavily trademarked name. The band wants the company to stop using the title to sell its comic books, video games and other merchandise, along with some money for all the trouble.

One Response to “Iron Maiden Sues Comic Book”

  1. That’s kind of funny… last time I checked an Iron Maiden was a medieval torture device. I’m pretty sure the band was born yet to even event the device (unless Eddy went back in time to get them). According to my research the comic book was to take place in the 1930s and I didn’t see any reference to a rock band or Eddie in there (did they even exist in the 30s?…. I think not).

In addition, during the 1960s there was a former rock band with the same name of Iron Maiden with the band members of Barry Skeels, Steve Drewett, Chris Rose and Alan Hooker.

Now I’m a big fan of the current Iron Maiden and love not only their music, but the lyrics as well (even played the game). This law suit certainly doesn’t make one of my favorite bands look to well (they should seriously consider consulting with a public relations advisor). Especially since this isn’t the first comic book to come out with the name of Iron Maiden and the former band makes them look like the rip offs.

The band would benefit more off of making a movie or comic book out of their own album material such as Somewhere In Time, Powerslave, or even Seventh Son of a Seventh Son instead of wasting their time and money on lawsuits like this.

I wonder what Melina Vostokoff would’ve thought about this?
