Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich is filthy rich and he has no problems showing off just how rich he is. The rocker recently purchased a Jean Michel-Basquiat painting at an auction in New York City for a cool $14 million, easily outdoing the $12 million it was estimated to go for. The piece is called ‘Untitled (Boxer)’ from 1982 and depicts an abstracted black heavyweight fighting with arms outstretched against a white graffiti background. The painting was the center of a 2005 traveling retrospective of the artist’s work. Basquiat died in 1988 of a drug overdose at the age of 27, just 6 years after the piece Lars bought was created. It seems that the drummer is also a big art collector.
