March 26th, 2008 by Hannah

Neil Aspinall, known to many as the ‘fifth Beatle’ has passed away at the age of 66 in New York City. Mr. Aspinall died of lung cancer. He was known as the fifth member of the legendary band for his long time support. He was a school friend of Paul McCartney and George Harrison. He was also the band’s first road manager who would drive them to gigs in his band. He later became their personal assistant and was then given a management role at Apple Records, The Beatles’ own label, in 1968. Despite no musical training, Mr. Aspinall also sang in the chorus of ‘Yellow Submarine’. Surviving Beatles Paul and Ringo Starr made a joint statement saying how much he will be missed.
