Indian male singer in burqa row

A popular Bollywood male singer has apologised for wearing a burqa to pray in a famous Muslim shrine in India. Himesh Reshammiya said he was sorry if people were “offended” by his dressing as a woman to enter the Ajmer shrine. The Ajmer shrine is amongst the most prominent site of the Muslims in India, and known to be a place where wishes are fulfilled. Many movie stars over the years have visited the place to take blessings. Himesh has said he wore the burqa so as to not get mobbed by fans that might spot him. Last year, Bollywood starlet Katrina Kaif was criticized by devotees for entering the shrine in a skirt. Actually this should a nice message for the Indian people living anywhere in the world, that Hindus and other communities do not hesitate visiting a Muslim shrine to offer prayers. But a male person wearing a burqa is totally unprecedented and if he would have just entered the shrine as his normal self it couldn’t have created a stir. His first he nearing release and could me a marketing gimmick as well.
