A.R. Rahman’s music for ‘Lord of the Rings’.
The Indian music Maestro has once again showed that he belongs to the world stage. He started by giving music in South Indian movie then bollywood movie and has since orchestrated for Andrew Lloyd Webber in the Musical – Bombay Dreams and has now enhanced his reputation by providing the music for ‘Lord of the Rings’ which opened on Tuesday widely considered the most expensive production in the history of West End theater. Since the man come from India and most likely would have training in classical Indian music as most Indian music directors have. This could be at his disadvantage as the base of his music shall always remain Indian and international music is today divided into many forms. Theater musicals are mostly western oriented music and this will really test the skills of Rahman. Will he be providing a fusion kinda music, mix of western tunes and Indian Ragas? The production has opened to mix reviews internationally and Rahman’s music could be the key to the whole outcome.
